Temporary redundancy

During extreme periods of reduced work load temporary lay off and redundancy are options available to Employers.

Laying off employees is a temporary measure under which the employee’s obligation to work and the employer’s obligation to pay wages are suspended. Employees who are laid off may be entitled to unemployment benefits. The employment relationship continues to exist, and it is assumed that the work stoppage is temporary.

Layoff can be a necessary means to ensure the future of the company and it’s employees through a difficult period. However, employees can only be laid off on reasonable grounds and employers must also follow strict rules.

We assist both employers and employees in layoff situations, both in the planning, assessment, implementation and litigation.
